Copying a DVD to Your Hard Drive
First, let"s consider your DVD collection. Over the years, many of us have accumulated a rather large collection of DVDs. We may have bought them on discount at Blockbuster, purchased them at WalMart, or bought them over the Internet. However we purchased our DVDs, the value of them is quite high.Each year, I probably have purchased about 30 DVDs. My collection now stands at well over 300 DVDs. If we consider that each DVD that I have purchased costs a little more than $10, my DVD collection is probably something for which I have paid well over $3,000.
But, once I have seen a movie, I put the DVDs back in their case and I do not pull it out again until I want to rewatch the movie. Some movies are worth rewatching.
Often though, when I go back to get the original DVD, I will find problems. Sometimes my kids have not put the DVD back into its case and I can"t find it. Other times, I return only to find the DVD scratched and unplayable. As this happens, the value of my DVD collection is quickly dwindling.
Another problem that I have is that I like to watch movies on the road when I am travelling for work. However, I do not like to bring the DVD itself or the DVD attachment to my laptop computer. All of this makes travelling much more cumbersome.
So, as you can see, I have two problems. One, my DVDs tend to get lost or scratched. And, two, I do not like to be burdened with the actually DVDs or the DVD laptop player when I am on the road.
Both of the problems can be overcome by copying the contents of the DVD to my hard drive on my computer.
The act of copying DVDs to your hard is actually very easy. I have gotten it down to a science.
There are many ways, and multitudes of software programs, that allow you to copy a DVD to your hard disk. With these programs, you simply need to make one choice: Do you want to shrink the DVD before you copy it to your computer or do you want it to be the same size, in which case you get to have all of the menus and full effects of the DVD?
In summary, copying DVDs to your computer has many advantages. You should do it both to protect your DVD investment and allow you to watch movies on the go.
